Maps Marker Pro is a WordPress mapping plugin. Our main goal is to provide our users with an intuitive and user-friendly interface for organizing and sharing spots and tracks.
The plugin is based on the famous leaflet.js library managed by Vladimir Agafonkin, which also powers maps on sites like Facebook, Flickr, Foursquare, Craigslist, Wikipedia and Washington Post. We use this library as the basis for our plugin and have integrated several other leaflet plugins for enhancing its functionality.
We are constantly improving our plugin: We frequently release updates and focus on high quality service and support for our users.

Nevertheless we now decided to make a cut and release v2.8-beta1 to all users eagerly anticipating the new release :-). We kindly invite all interested users in testing v2.8-beta1 and reporting any issues by using the helpdesk, leaving a comment or using the contact form.
The highlight of the upcoming release is the support for alternative geocoding providers Mapzen Search, Algolia Places, Photon@MapsMarker, MapQuest Geocoding and Google Geocoding:
Please be aware that Mapzen Search is set as the new default geocoding provider, which even works without providing a custom API key (registering a free one is recommended though to receive higher rate limits) – Algolia Places and Photon@MapsMarker can also be used without an API key. If you want to use MapQuest Geocoding or Google Geocoding, you have to register a mandatory API key.
We added a new related “Geocoding” settings section – on the settings page which has been completely reorganized for better usability:
v2.8 also re-adds compatibility with MapQuest basemaps, which now require an API key.
We also added support for new basemaps like Stamen Terrain and Stamen Toner, which are available in different flavors too. OpenStreetMap now also supports 5 different variants – see the updated “Basemap” settings section for more details – see below for examples.
New basemap “Stamen Terrain”:
New basemap “Stamen Toner”:
New OpenStreetMap basemap variants:
Custom basemaps 1-3 and custom overlays 1-4 have also been updated with new default providers – anyway as we do not overwrite existing settings here, you need to either reset your settings to see them or delete your current inputs from the related settings sections and save the default values.
Please be aware that not all linked tutorials on mapsmarker.com (e.g. for creating API keys for search services) are available yet – we will finish them soon.
The final release v2.8 with more detailed release notes is planned to be released by the end of October, depending on issues reported by beta testers.
Please see the end of this post on how to update to v2.8-beta1.

Maps Marker Pro and Leaflet Maps Marker will work properly out of the box with W3 Total Cache v0.9.5.1 even if the hotfix below was not applied.
The popular W3 Total Cache plugin was updated to v0.9.5 today. Unfortunately this update does not consider backward compatiblity for functions lots of other plugins – including Maps Marker Pro – are depending on. This is why updating to W3TC 0.9.5 can make parts of your WordPress backend unaccessible and you will the see the following error in the content area instead:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function w3_instance()...
As we are currently in the last steps of preparing the upcoming releases, we decided to publish a hotfix for this issue. That hotfix has been added to the current pro v2.7.3 release – so if you have downloaded Maps Marker Pro after Sep 26th, you are not affected from this issue and do not need to apply the hotfix. If you downloaded Maps Marker Pro before Sep 26th (and updated to W3 Total Cache v0.9.5) you need to follow this tutorial to apply the hotfix:
/wp-content/plugins/leaflet-maps-marker-pro/inc/
As an alternative you can also edit the file /wp-content/plugins/leaflet-maps-marker-pro/inc/compatibility-checks.php
directly and delete the W3TC compatibility check (on line 65-94 for v2.7.3)
Please be aware that the tutorial above only applies to Maps Marker Pro – if you are looking for a tutorial on how to apply the hotfix for Leaflet Maps Marker, please click here.
We are sorry for this inconvenience. For future version we will try to make sure that our code runs properly even if function from third-party plugins are removed or not accessible anymore…
This release focuses on the Google API changes which are in effect since January 22nd 2016 and helps fixing related potential issues.
An update to the latest version is – as always – highly recommended. For more details about this release please see below.

Now let´s get to the highlights of pro v2.7.3:
Google has changed the Google Maps API on June 22nd 2016, requiring a mandatory Google API key for all sites, which call the Google Maps API services for the first time after June 22nd 2016 – full details here.
If this is true for your site/domain, you need to register a free API key to be able to continue using Google services on your site. v2.7.3 assists you in verifying this and helping you through this process – in addition to our updated tutorial on how to register a Google Maps API key at https://mapsmarker.com/google-maps-api-key.
We discovered that this change could also lead to issues, if another plugin or theme also enqueues the Google Maps API – in particular if that implementation does not take your Google Maps API key in account or does not load all libraries needed for Maps Marker Pro. As a result maps or address search may not be working anymore.
So in order to prevent this, we added a new compatibility check. If this is true for your site, you will see the following admin notice:
To fix this, you can either manually remove the additional Google Maps API calls from third party plugin or themes or – as we would recommend – enable the new compatibility option “Deregister Google Maps API scripts enqueued by third parties”:
This will call the wp_dequeue_script()-function for all Google Maps API call from third party plugins or themes – preventing them from being loaded.
With Chrome 50 Google made a significant change to the geolocation support of its browser: all applications requesting the current position of the user (not just for Maps Marker Pro´s geolocation feature) are only allowed anymore to retrieve the current position of the user if the site is setup to be delivered securely via https – users will see the following warning instead:
See more details about this decision by Google at https://developers.google.com/web/updates/2016/04/geolocation-on-secure-contexts-only. Geolocation will still work on non-https sites if the users access the site via alternative browsers like Firefox, Safari or Internet Explorer – anyway it could be likely that those browsers will also add a similar security restriction in the future.
So if you need the Maps Marker Pro geolocation featue on your site (which with v2.7 even gets more usable as you can sort the list of markers based on the current position of the user), it is strongly advised to migrate your site to https. Some hosters already provide free https certificates from letsencrypt.org for example. For configurations needed within your WordPress site in order to configure it to support https, please have a look at tutorials like https://css-tricks.com/moving-to-https-on-wordpress/.
As https has more advantages for your site than just geolocation working again with Google Chrome 50+ (like securing the data integrity, sender authentication and user privacy as well as higher Google ranking as https is used as ranking signal), we strongly advise to switch your site to https only if you haven´t done so yet.
Thanks to many motivated contributors, this release includes the following updated translations:
If you want to contribute to translations (new Hindi translators would be appreciated!), please visit https://translate.mapsmarker.com/projects/lmm for more information.
Please note that translators are also compensated for their contribution – for example if a translation is finished less than 50%, the translator receives a free 25 licenses pack worth €249 as a compensation for completing the translation to 100%.
Please understand that we are not able to promise any release dates for new features. The roadmap for major new features gives you an idea where Maps Marker Pro is heading – anyway we just want to keep the flexibility to add optimizations and bugfixes with rather unplanned minor releases resulting mostly from users feedback.

How to download / update
The easiest way to update is to use the WordPress update process: login with an user who has admin privileges, navigate to Dashboard / Updates, select plugins to update and press the button “Update Plugins”. The pro plugin checks every 12 hours if a new version is available. You can also manually trigger the update check by going to Plugins and clicking on the link “Manually check for updates” next to “Maps Marker Pro”:
If you do not see the link “Check for updates” and are using a version below 1.7, please update manually once by downloading the current package from https://www.mapsmarker.com/download-pro and overwritting the existing plugin files on your server via FTP. This might be needed on several hosts, which use outdated SSL libraries, which prevent Maps Marker Pro from making a secure connection to retrieve the update package from mapsmarker.com. Pro v1.7 includes a workaround for those kind of servers and the following updates should work again as usual. If you are affected and need help, please open a support ticket.

Now let´s get to the highlights of pro v2.7.2:
On the layer edit pages you now can delete assigned markers from the table in bulk:
Thank Chris for that valuable feedback!
Maps Marker Pro already supports displaying maps properly in tabs created with jQuery UI tabs and bootstrap tabs. What caused us some headaches so far were proprietary tab solutions or maps being loaded in hidden divs and shown by click on demand – this could result in maps not being fully loaded.
So with v2.7.2 we now added a new general compatibility settings at Settings / Misc / General Settings:
Please enable this setting only if you are experiencing issues with maps in proprietary tab solutions or hidden divs which are displayed on demand.
The fact that markers cannot be assigned to multi-layer-maps directly, but only to layers which are used in multi-layer-maps, might not be intuitive – especially to new users. With v2.7.2 we tried to improve this by showing an alert info with related information if a user tries to assign a marker to a multi-layer-map:
With Chrome 50 Google made a significant change to the geolocation support of its browser: all applications requesting the current position of the user (not just for Maps Marker Pro´s geolocation feature) are only allowed anymore to retrieve the current position of the user if the site is setup to be delivered securely via https – users will see the following warning instead:

Now let´s get to the highlights of pro v2.7.1:
If you want to extend Maps Marker Pro further beyond its features, we’ve got the Maps Marker Pro APIs ready for you to build upon it. And if you need some help with that, we’ve got that covered now, too: please see https://www.mapsmarker.com/wpruby-com for more details about our new partnership with WPRuby.com.
Please subscribe to this blog (via RSS or Email) or follow @MapsMarker on twitter (= most current updates) if you want to stay up to date with the latest development news.

We are really proud of this new release and consider it to be one of the best so far, especially as lots of features on frontend were added which increase the overall usability of Maps Marker Pro. Special thanks to Waseem Senjer who did a great job in implementing most of the new features!
Waseem now also leads the new WordPress developer team at https://wpruby.com/ and we will announce an official partnership soon: this will allow you to also benefit from their expertise for custom developments based on Maps Marker Pro – especially if your requirements are too specific to be added as an feature to one of the next releases of Maps Marker Pro. More details will be announced in a separate blog post within the next few days. Stay tuned!

Now let´s get to the highlights of pro v2.7:
With v2.7 you can add a new filter controlbox to your multi-layer-maps which allows you to dynamically toggle the visibility of each layer´s markers on frontend:
In order to achieve this, we enhanced the backend for layer edit pages by added a new option for the filter controlbox visibility and 3 new rows which allow you to customise the filter controlbox:
Possible values are no/yes (checked)/yes (unchecked).
If you add an URL to an image within this row, this image will be added to the filter controlbox. See the follow screenshot for an example:
By default the name of the checked layer map will be used for the name in the filter controlbox. Anyway if you want to use a custom name for the layer name in the filter controlbox, you can add one within the according row for each layer.
Within Settings / Map Defaults you will find a new section called “Filter settings for multi-layer map”:
You can specify where the new filter controlbox will be displayed and also select attributes you would like to be shown within the controlbox. In addition you can set specific sort orders for active and inactive layers, defaulting to “marker count”.
Last but not least: please note that existing multi-layer-maps are not updated automatically! If you want to add a filter controlbox to an existing multi-layer-map, please open the map on backend, adjust the settings accordingly and save the map once.
In addition to the filters for multi-layer-maps we also enhanced the list of markers below layer maps to be more usable:
The list of markers now changes dynamically, interacting with the new filter controlbox for multi-layer maps. So the list will update automatically to the markers currently visible on the map.
In addition the list of markers also now supports paging, allowing users to scroll through all markers assigned to a map. The default value for new installations for markers per page is 10. If you did not make a fresh installation but an update of Maps Marker Pro to v2.7, this value is still set to 100 (if you did not change it) and can be changed via Settings / Map Defaults / “List of markers settings” by changing the option “Default number of markers for paging”:
User can in addition also change this value dynamically on frontend by changing the according number in the footer row of the table.
The list of markers now also supports search, allowing the users to search the available markers based on markername, popuptext and address (full text search).
Last but not least, a sort order dropdown was added, allowing users to change the sort order for the list of markers dynamically.
Within Settings / Map Defaults / “List of markers settings” you will find all related (new and updated) settings.
The default sort order for the list of markers can be set by the option named “Order list of markers by”:
We also added a new section for the so-called action bar allowing you to customise its appearance according to your needs:
As you might have noticed from the screenshot above, we enhanced the list of markers to also allow ordering of markers by current position of the user viewing the map. This allows great new usecases like navigating a user with his mobile to your nearest store.
The behaviour of the links in the list of markers has also been changed with v2.7. By default if a user now clicks on the marker icon or marker name in the list of markers, the map centers on the requested marker AND uses the specific marker zoom level instead of the layer zoom level – allowing you to better customise your layer maps according to your needs.
If you want to use the layer zoom level instead when centering a marker, please change the new related setting “Zoom level to use for centering markers” which can be found at Settings / Map Defaults / “List of markers settings”:
Maps Marker Pro now also offers a complete RESTful API allowing you to access some of the common core functionalities in Maps Marker Pro. For full documentation and usage examples please visit https://www.mapsmarker.com/restapi
Maps Marker Pro includes a javascript API which can be utilized by developers to attach events handlers to markers and layers.
The JS Events API has three main methods which can be used to access the maps by javascript code. Basically, you are free to apply any capability on the Map object existed in the Leaflet library reference. For full documentation and usage examples please visit https://www.mapsmarker.com/jseventsapi
As maps get much more dynamic on frontend with v2.7 we also added a new home button which allows to restore the original state of the map (zoom level, location and clustering status are reset):
By default this button gets only displayed if the map view is changed. This behaviour can be changed via Settings / Map Defaults / “Control Options” by changing the following related settings:
With v2.7 we also added the new setting “center map on popup” which can be found at Settings / Map Defaults / “Default values for marker popups”:
This setting is set to true by default and was added to solve issues with popups on map margins, where autopanning did not work properly.
If the user is allowed to edit a marker map (can be defined at Settings / Misc / Permission Settings), he can now also use the edit links to open a marker map on backend which are automatically added to the list of markers on frontend:
On the tools page you will find a new tool called “Marker validity check for layer assignements”:
With this tool you can check if any markers exist that are assigned to layers that do not exist (anymore). This can happen if you deleted a layer but did not update the assignements of the related markers.
Using this tool is generally not required, especially as we added additional verifications with former releases that this does not happen by a default usage of Maps Marker Pro. Anyway if you are using one of the APIs to manage your maps and missing markers on some layer maps for example, this tool can help analysing and fixing this issue.
Please subscribe to this blog (via RSS or Email) or follow @MapsMarker on twitter (= most current updates) if you want to stay up to date with the latest development news.

Click here for a tutorial on how to verify the integrity of the plugin package (recommended if the plugin package for a new installation was not downloaded from https://www.mapsmarker.com – verification is not needed though if the automatic update process is used)
If you upgraded from v2.7-beta1 please go to Settings and save them once, as new options (home button) have been added with v2.7-beta2 which are not saved automatically on beta updates!

The highlights of the upcoming release are support for multi-layer-map filtering on frontend, dynamic list of markers below layer maps including paging/search/sorting, a new REST API, a Javascript Events API for LeafletJS as well as lots of other changes especially on frontend with a focus to to improve the overall usability.
We would in particular be interested in feedback about the new feature “multi-layer-map filtering on frontend”. Beta testers are invited to create a new multi-layer-map by ticking the according checkbox on the layer edit page and customizing the contents for the filter controlbox according to their needs:
The layer map on frontend will as a result have a new filter controlbox in the top right corner and the list of markers now also supports paging as well as search and sorting:
The final release v2.7 with more detailed release notes is planned to be released on April 30th, depending on issues reported by beta testers.
Please see the end of this post on how to update to v2.7-beta1.

One of the other plugins had a horrible UI, and wasn’t very clear how to achieve anything, and the other was extremely greedy, and required payment for even the simplest of features. I get supporting developers (I’m one myself), but giving someone a car, without the keys, isn’t acceptable; you pay for the new rims, and nitro upgrade, not keys
As for this plugin, the UI is clean, the options described in a way that is easy to understand, and the flexibility is great. The best thing about this plugin, is the ability to add links (for free) to your markers on the map. I needed to make markers for restaurants and bars, and link to the corresponding pages on the marker popup, which this app allowed me to do, while others did not.
All in all, a very nice plugin, with (seemingly) great support, and a lot of great features. As long as the free version remains this complete, and the paid version brings more to the table, I’ll definitely support this plugin and developer.

But this is THE most incredible plugin. Here’s how it works in case you’re as new as I was.
You make an individual Marker Map showing one location (well laid out data entry despite its many options). That takes about a minute if you have the address handy. If you want a number of locations to show on a map, you create a Layer Map (again, easy data entry layout despite many options). And on the layer, you call in whatever Marker Maps you’ve created that you want. They’re listed below the layer map. Set the zoom level you want visitors to see on default for that layer, and that’s it, you’re ready to go. A Layer Map takes me about 2 minutes, max. Plus, if you forgot to assign your markers to a particular layer, there’s a bulk-action setup so you can select the ones you want to assign to that layer all at once. Sooo friendly!
Next, when writing posts, there’s now a button next to “Add Media” which is “Add Map” and whammo, your individual marker maps and layer maps are listed. Highlight which map you want in the post and hit “Insert map” and in comes the bracketed shortcode. Place it wherever you want the map to appear within the post, and presto. Done deal. No glitches, no confusion. Easily changeable.
Pop-up balloons on Marker Maps are either defaulted to show, or set for click-marker-to-show/hide, your call, with each one individually. You can put anything in those pop-up balloons you want. This is sooo easy, sooo user friendly (both backend and frontend) and everything works. I did have a glitch on the free version which disappeared when I downloaded the “free 30 days trial full version” and it may well have been something I was doing but I’d suggest starting with the free version just to see how it works, but as soon as you’re thinking you like it, go to the 30-day trial. LOVE this plugin! I use a ton of maps and they have to be VERY flexible. Heads, tails and bodies over the other two map plugins I tried. Just no freaking comparison at all.
Installed this plugin on multiple client websites. Very very very rarely have any issues. It is both simple to install and use… But provides an enormous number of customization options for the advanced user.
Plus, it’s cool that you can show other maps than just Google (but of course, Google Maps is an option too!).
I don’t even look at other maps plugins any more.

Robert (the developer) gave simply amazing support – he was always prompt to respond, and when we discovered some plugin incompatibilities, he immediately updated the plugin to address them.
I love this plugin, and have not found any others out there that can come even close to Maps Marker Pro.
I highly recommend it!
I’ve never felt compelled to write a review for a plug in before but I’ve used this on 3 projects now all with impressive reviews from a clients point of view. Every client I have shown it too has wanted it on their site and I will continue to promote it!
It does what would take you hours to do in google maps api in about 30 minutes and is easily tweaked style wise too due to the sheer number of classes applied to easily hide what you don’t want to show!
Thanks for all your work on this plugin – you have one very happy ambassador!

Are you looking for a nice Maps, plugin?
So feel lucky are here.
The best Map plugin ever tried. (Believe me I tried a lot)
Tried a couple of googlemaps and OSM plugins and as far as I have seen, this is the best and easiest way to put up maps and markers on a wordpress site.
You can choose to display various google maps (satellite, road, relief, …) or open street maps which is neat.
The overall interface is very professional and there are lot of usefull options.
the best part: it’s easy to add and manage markers even for non-technical persons.
As someone suggested: I would love if users could add and manage their own markers.
It’s irrelevant to the plugin itself, but I also appreciated the way the author ask for support in a non intrusive way and offer different options to support him (paypal, amazon wishlist, buy though his amazon affiliate store which cost nothing to the user, as well as flattr).
Planning to use of one of these option very soon.
